Roger Sterling All Stars

Tuesday is TV day so first let’s start with last night’s Monday Night Football game. It was pretty boring up until the end. Seeing two quarterbacks who don’t handle pressure well both try to lose the game was fun. Joe Flacco did his best impersonation of statute getting sacked in overtime. However, Matt Schaub would not be out done. After seeing the sack Schaub pushed his chips all in and threw a wobbly TAInt (Touchdown After Interception) to seal the game. The TAInt also insured the Ravens covered. It was an exciting ending so I can’t complain.

Since it’s the end of the year and everyone trots out a list or two, today we have the first annual Roger Sterling All Stars (RSAS). In order to be a RSAS you must be a supporting character on your show, but steal almost every scene you are in, leaving me asking for more.

5. Ari Gold, Entourage – Lately Ari has become more of a main character and I think he suffers because of it. I like the old Ari where he would be on screen for only moments at a time, and in those few moments drop some F-bombs, yell at an underling, belittle a rival, and solve Vince’s problems. Those moments were “Gold” and now I have to watch him get divorced, lame.

4. Dean Pelton, Community – The Dean always makes me laugh. Whether it is dressing as Lady Gaga or mapping out the best rest stops in the area his hijinks never fail. If he were to become a main character however his jokes would get stale and old pretty quick. A phenomenon that holds true for everyone on the list.

3. TJ Lavin, The Challenge – First, TJ is back home and recovering, so that’s good. Second, every time TJ throws in his two cents on The Challenge I take note. We have learned that he hates quitters, encourages competitors to play fair, and has a strong distaste for throwing teammates under the bus. TJ we can learn a lot from you, keep dropping your knowledge.

2. Ronnie, Jersey Shore – Ronnie is not The Situation, DJ Pauly D, or Snookie the media dubbed stars of the show, he is his own man. Ronnie always has a great comment during his interviews on “the situation” at hand. He mostly stays out of the spotlight, but when that spotlight shines on him it shines bright. He has shown the world how to cheat on your girlfriend and get away with it, and we know if challenged he has the ability to put someone to sleep with “one shot son”.

1. Rodger Sterling, Mad Men – Who else would be at number 1 on the RSAS. Whether he is yelling “you got cancer?” at Don Draper, writing a hilarious titled book, or reminding everyone how the Japanese can sneak up on you, Rodger Sterling is gold. That is why this list is named after Rodger and hopefully no one ever takes the top spot from him as long as Mad Men is on the air.

That should do it for today. Looks like I’ve started another streak, let’s see how long this one can go.
